The Sunrisers is a senior marching and maneuvering corps based in Orangetown, New Jersey. The corps was formed in 1954. DCI Hall of Famer Wayne Downey marched with the Sunrisers in 1969. The Sunrisers took two consecutive world championships, in 1977 and 1978. The man who rebuilt the corps, Eugene F. Bennett, was elected to the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame in 2002. The corps came close to disbanding in 2002, but enthusiatic recruiting by corps members kept the group alive. In 2003, after a three-year layoff, the Sunrisers finished second in DCA Class A competition. The corps' 2004 finish was 16th in DCA Prelims, with a show entitled 'Something Old, Something New, Something Orange, Something Blue.' [DCW, 6/28/02, p.9; DCW, 3/02, p.10; DCW, 3/04, p.8] |
