Diamond Bar, CA United States
Founded: 1993
The Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps is a World Class competitive junior drum and bugle corps based in Diamond Bar, California.
Serving the residential area east of Los Angeles, Pacific Crest (PC) was founded in 1993. In its first season, the corps fielded only 33 members, but the corps grew in size and ability while initially being strictly a local California unit. This allowed both for the corps to hold down expenses and for the members to continue to hold jobs, go to summer school, and/or have other home-based activities during the performance season.
Pacific Cresy did not leave its home state until it traveled to Texas for two shows in 2000. The corps next journeyed away from California for a three-show tour of the Pacific Northwest in 2002. It was not until 2003, PC's tenth season on the field. that the unit attended the Drum Corps International (DCI) World Championships, held that year in Orlando, Florida. That season, the corps' only other out-state appearance had been at The Academy's home show in Phoenix, Arizona. Pacific Crest had suffucienty grown and developed by then, that the DCI Board had granted the corps permission to compete as a Division I corps while also maintaining its "West Coast only" status. Without the internet being as ubiquitous as it is today, most drum corps fans were unfamiliar with the corps. Many were shocked and amazed when the corps placed 17th and advanced to semifinals.
Even after having been a DCI srmifinalist, for several more years, the organization maintained a policy of spending most of the season near home in California. While this practice possibly prevented Pacific Crest from ascending beyond the second tier of the Division I/World Class corps, it helped to sustain the corps while it built its financial base until it could afford the travel expenses of a major touring drum corps.
In 2004, PC appeared in two Midwestern contests just prior to DCI Championships in Denver. In 2004, the unit entered three Eastern shows en route to DCI Championships in Foxboro, Masssachusetts. In 2006, the corps was in four Eastern and Midwestern contests on the way to DCI in Madison, Wisconsin. It was not until 2007 that Pacific Crest became a fully-touring World Class corps.
Pacific Crest has advanced to DCI Semifinals in 2003, 2007–08, and 2011-17
