CORPS Photos
As the name implies, the corps drew its membership from an area within 150 miles of Troy, New York, from several states.
The corps colors were red, white, and black.
Known as the I-Men, the corps was the Massachusetts and Connecticut American Legion Champions in 1960, 1962, and 1963, and the Northeast States Open Champions in 1962. They at one time or another defeated nearly every one of their head-to-head competitors.
Corps instructor Dominic DelRay is credited with inventing the mellophone bugle, and the I-Men may have been the first corps ever to use it, in 1963. The corps is also credited with being the first top-ten corps to begin a show in a position other than the standard off the line. In the early 1960s, the corps had to obtain permission from judges to split the corps on separate starting lines. This innovative group was a charter member of DCA in 1963.
The corps disbanded in 1967.
